Dr. Justin H. Lonon is the eighth chancellor of Dallas College, one of the largest community colleges in the country, with seven campuses spread across Dallas County. Since taking office in March 2022, he has led the college into its 60th anniversary around a vision he calls the 22nd Century College: a model of higher education built on innovation, workforce alignment and a founder's mindset. Under his leadership Dallas College has kept adding four-year degrees beyond its first bachelor's programs in early childhood education and nursing, organized its campus presidents around nine regional industry sectors including aerospace, construction, health care and technology, and launched the Dallas Transfer Collaborative to smooth the path from an associate to a bachelor's degree across North Texas. The college describes him as its chief barrier buster.
Lonon joined the college in 2005 and has held nearly every senior role in it since, including vice chancellor of public and governmental affairs, executive vice chancellor from 2015, where he oversaw almost every operational and strategic area, and interim president of the Brookhaven campus. He was a driving force in merging the seven colleges of the Dallas County Community College District into a single Dallas College, and the Board of Trustees chose him unanimously as chancellor in 2021. Before joining the college he served as press secretary to Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk. He sits on the board of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities and has served on the boards of the Presidents Forum, United Ways of Texas, the Dallas Regional Chamber, the Dallas Workforce Solutions Board and Rebuilding America's Middle Class. An Arkansas native, he holds a B.S. in public administration from Missouri State University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Texas and a Doctorate in Management from University of Maryland Global Campus.
